Scholarships

New students applying for admission to Grades 6 through 12 at Rothesay Netherwood School may apply for a Scholarship if they have an academic average of 85% (or equivalent) or higher in their current or prior school. There are a limited number of scholarships available each year. It is an award and no repayment is required. Scholarship application requires the submission of the Scholarship Portfolio by the posted deadlines and are considered and awarded in two rounds; early application is encouraged.

RNS Scholarships are awarded only in a student's first year of enrolment at RNS, however they are renewable for each continuous year of enrolment as long as the student meets the scholarship criteria for the specific award and is a student in good standing. RNS does not offer new scholarships to returning students.

Bursaries

Bursaries are awarded on demonstrated financial need to new families of Canadian students accepted to Rothesay Netherwood School. It is an award and no repayment is required. The size of individual grants is limited by the amount of endowment monies available and the number of applicants. All requests for bursaries must be made through application to Apple Financial Services. Bursary applications are considered and awarded in two rounds; early application is encouraged.

All requests for financial assistance are processed by an independent firm, Apple Financial Services, for assessment and recommendation. There is a nominal fee associated with this service. Applications should be submitted by the stated Round 1 and Round 2 deadlines.
In evaluating requests for aid, the school considers the following criteria
  • The demonstrated financial need of the family
  • The financial assistance that is available from the school
  • The students' academic record and their potential to contribute to school life.
  • Our commitment to equitable treatment for all applicants. This is possible only if full details of the parents' financial situation have been disclosed on the Apple Financial Services application.

Scholarship Portfolio

Rothesay Netherwood School is eager to admit students who will be involved in the school community, are ready for the challenge of the academic program, who know the value of effort and realize the importance of giving back. The most successful students take full advantage of all the opportunities an RNS education offers. Successful candidates must be well-rounded individuals or those who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, service, and extracurricular involvement. Those students who are interested in applying for a scholarship, will need to complete the Scholarship Portfolio. 

This would include:
  • An essay stating why the applicant feels they are a good candidate for RNS and what they would bring to the school community.
  • A one to two minute video to introduce the applicant. 
  • Evidence and examples of well-roundedness or excellence in a particular area (Arts, Science, Service, Sport).
  • A letter of recommendation for scholarship

Review and Approval Process

All requests for bursaries must be made through application to Apple Financial Services. No request for financial assistance is entertained by the school unless an application for admission to RNS is on file and the Bursary Application is submitted to Apple Financial Services. All information is held in strict confidence. All awards are given on an annual basis and are not automatically renewed. A new bursary application must be submitted each year and reflect any changes in financial circumstances. The level of financial support may be adjusted if there is a change in the parents' financial status.
 
Returning families requesting financial aid must submit forms to Apple Financial Services each year by December 1st. Current school fees must be paid in full before an application can be considered. All awards will be credited to a student's tuition upon enrolment for the following academic year.


Scholarship & Bursary Application Deadlines

December 15th

Scholarship & Bursary Round 1 - All those who qualify and wish to be considered for scholarship and/or bursary should submit their Scholarship Portfolio by this date. Only completed applications received by this deadline can be considered with priority.

Decisions will be offered on a rolling basis up to February 1st for all completed applications received by December 15th.

March 15th

Scholarship & Bursary Round 2 - All those who qualify and wish to be considered for scholarship and/or bursary should submit their Scholarship Portfolio by this date. Only completed applications received by this deadline can be considered with priority.

Decisions will be offered on a rolling basis up to May 1st for all completed applications received by March 15.

For those who qualify and wish to be considered for scholarship and/or bursary but missed the Round 2 Deadline may be considered on a rolling basis only if funds are remaining. Please enquire with Enrolment Management prior to applying for scholarship and/or bursary after the posted deadlines.
